Edelweiss

They walk

Along. So tired,

So hurt. Faces cut,

Covered with dirt.

Eyes are open. Yet,

Still they sleep.

They feel no

Pain. Wounds

Are deep.

So far to

go.  So

Little

to see.

Is It over.

Now.

Can It really,

be?

No more

Pain.

No Death

Ahead.

No more

Hurt. No

Tears to

shed.  Home

they go,

Their job

Is done.

The war is

over.

But no ones

Won.

Walk on

Soldier. Hold

your Head high.

Your wives

Are waiting and

your children.

Cry.

Review of exhibitions at Tate Liverpool

By Sarah Billington

28/11/2011

The Tate at Liverpool is currently displaying two exhibitions, DLA Piper Series: This is Sculpture and Alice in Wonderland.  I have been asked to write a six word review on my experience of the trip, which in theory sounds pretty straightforward but I have been thinking about this for three days and I have only just come up with anything that is remotely close to what I actually think.  As with all art its a totally personel experience and nothing could of echoed that more than the time I spent in the  Alice in Wonderland exhibition, in fact i don’t think i ever left !  On the ground floor is the starting point for the exhibition and you can see Carroll’s original manuscript, written in 1864 as a present for ten year old Alice Liddell.  With actual drawings by Lewis Carroll and numerous photogarphs and memorabilia, there really is a special kind of feeling you get when your that close to something so extraordinary.. or maybe thats just me.  I was so captivated by the Alice exhibition I lost all track of time (as you should) and realised i only had about 30mins to spend on the DLA Piper Series and it was just not enough time to be able to appreciate all that it offered.  There was a clear connection between the two exhibitions and I could see the reason why they were chosen to be shown together.  With the DLA Piper Series displaying pictures of keys and broken watches and sculptures that included broken bits of mirrors and three Spalding basketballs suspended in distilled water in a rectangular glass case.  All  drawing towards the fantastical world of Alice in Wonderland where natural laws were suspended.  A truly enchanting and explicitly exhilarating experience and one that will stay with me for a long time.   Alice in Wonderland is that little bit in everybody that just refuses to grow up .  And rightly so !  So my 6 word review……..

Bringing nonsence into the 21st Century…
